Burnout Recovery Coaching

Coaching for the
high achiever
running on empty.

burnout isn't a character flaw

If you're succeeding by every outside measure and privately running on fumes, you're in the right place. I'm a physician, educator, and founder who hit burnout in clinical medicine and rebuilt from there. I work with high achievers across professions who are exhausted in a way that rest alone hasn't fixed.

New to coaching? Here's a quick primer on what life coaching actually is before diving in.

Lauren Fine, MD: Burnout Coach for High Achievers

"I've been at zero.
I know the way back."

Lauren Fine, MD · ICF-Track Coach · TEDx Speaker

Who I work with

High achievers
running on empty.

My coaching practice is built around high achievers across professions who share a particular kind of exhaustion. You may recognize yourself in some of these.

The Pattern
What's Underneath
Successful by every external measure
Running on empty by every internal one
Pushing through the exhaustion
Mistaking exhaustion for normal
Took a vacation, still felt depleted
Rest alone doesn't fix what's driving this
Can't remember work feeling good
Doesn't know what would feel good instead
Hit every milestone
The trophies feel surprisingly light

My approach

Three things shape
how I work

Coaching is not therapy, not mentorship, and not advice-giving. I don't tell you to meditate more or take a vacation. I help you find what's actually driving the depletion, and what specifically needs to change.

01

I've been at zero, not just studied it

I hit real burnout in clinical medicine. I know what it's like when rest doesn't fix it, when the exhaustion isn't about hours but about meaning. I rebuilt a career from there, as an educator and founder. I'm not coaching you through something I've only read about.

02

I use ikigai to find what's actually missing, not just what's draining you

Burnout recovery isn't only about removing stress. It's about reconnecting with what makes work and life feel worth showing up for. Real ikigai, the Japanese concept, not the popularized Venn diagram, is what my TEDx talk is built around. My coaching practice puts it to work alongside the practical fixes. 03

I work in a structured, time-bound way

I don't believe in indefinite coaching relationships. Most of my clients work with me for 3 to 6 months in focused engagement. That's enough time to identify the real questions, do the actual reflection, test some new behaviors, and reach decisions. If you want a coach for the next ten years, I'm not the right fit, and that's a good thing for both of us.

3 to 6 month engagements ICF-track coach Structured process Real outcomes

How it works

Simple. No surprises.

01

First Session, Free

Free, 55 minutes. A real coaching session, not a screening call. You tell me where you are and what you're trying to figure out. I tell you honestly whether coaching makes sense and whether we're the right fit.

02

We Define the Work

If we move forward, we clarify the engagement: what we're working on, how often we meet, and what a meaningful outcome looks like for you.

03

We Do the Work

Regular sessions, real progress. The work is different for everyone. Some clients need to get unstuck, some need a plan, some need help telling their story. We go where it matters.

04

You Move Forward

The goal is never dependency. It's for you to leave with clarity, tools, and a narrative that's yours, and the confidence to act on it.

Is this for you

You might be in the right place if...

A note

This isn't for everyone.

Coaching works best when you're ready to do honest work. If burnout has tipped into depression, anxiety, or something that needs clinical care, therapy should be part of the picture too. If you're ready to find what's actually driving this and rebuild from there, let's talk.

Common questions

What people ask
before they reach out

How is burnout coaching different from therapy?

Coaching is forward-focused, action-oriented, and structured around the goals you set. Therapy is clinically-oriented, often focused on processing the past, and is provided by licensed mental health professionals. If burnout has tipped into depression or anxiety, therapy should be part of the picture. Coaching is not a substitute for mental health care.

Do I need to quit my job to recover from burnout?

No. Most clients don't leave their jobs. They use coaching to figure out what's actually driving the burnout, what needs to change, and what role they actually want going forward. Sometimes the answer is leaving. Sometimes it's staying with substantial changes.

How long does a typical engagement last?

Most clients work with me for 3 to 6 months. Some shorter, some longer, depending on the depth of what they're navigating. The goal is to help you rebuild something sustainable, not become dependent on a coach.

Is this only for physicians?

No. Burnout isn't profession-specific. Clients include physicians, attorneys, executives, founders, and academics. If you're specifically a physician, I also have a dedicated physician coaching page.

What credentials do you have?

MD (Doctor of Medicine). ICF-track coach. Faculty at the Harvard Macy Institute. TEDx speaker. Author of the Substack newsletter Permission to Change: Finding Your Ikigai.

What if I've already tried rest and it didn't help?

That's common, and it's usually a sign the burnout isn't just about hours worked. We look at what's actually underneath it: misalignment, unset boundaries, a role that no longer fits. Rest helps the symptom. This works on the cause.

What does the work actually look like?

We start by identifying what's actually driving the depletion, not just the schedule around it. Then we work through what needs to change, using the Fact vs. Story framework and ikigai mapping to rebuild toward something sustainable.
