Boundary & Capacity Coaching
you can stop proving it
If you're the most reliable person in every room, and you're privately exhausted by how much you've agreed to carry, you're in the right place. I'm a physician, educator, and founder who had to learn this the hard way. I work with high achievers, physicians, attorneys, and executives who say yes by reflex and pay for it later.
New to coaching? Here's a quick primer on what life coaching actually is before diving in.
"Every yes is a no
to something else."
Lauren Fine, MD · ICF-Track Coach · TEDx Speaker
Who I work with
My coaching practice is built around high achievers across professions who share a particular kind of pattern. You may recognize yourself in some of these.
My approach
Coaching is not therapy, not mentorship, and not advice-giving. I don't tell you what to say no to. I help you think more clearly about what you're actually protecting when you say yes, and what it's costing you.
01
I built a career as a physician, medical educator, and founder while saying yes to nearly everything. I learned the hard way what that costs, and what it takes to actually change the pattern instead of just white-knuckling through it. This isn't theory I read about.
02
Most overcommitment isn't a scheduling problem. It's a story problem: "if I say no, they'll think less of me," "if I don't do this, no one else will." My Fact vs. Story framework (Fact, Story, Verify, Cost, Rewrite) helps separate what's actually true from what's just familiar. Every yes is a no to something else. We make that trade visible before you make it.
03
I don't believe in indefinite coaching relationships. Most of my clients work with me for 3 to 6 months in focused engagement. That's enough time to identify the real questions, do the actual reflection, test some new behaviors, and reach decisions. If you want a coach for the next ten years, I'm not the right fit, and that's a good thing for both of us.
How it works
01
Free, 55 minutes. A real coaching session, not a screening call. You tell me where you are and what you're trying to figure out. I tell you honestly whether coaching makes sense and whether we're the right fit.
02
If we move forward, we clarify the engagement: what we're working on, how often we meet, and what a meaningful outcome looks like for you.
03
Regular sessions, real progress. The work is different for everyone. Some clients need to get unstuck, some need a plan, some need help telling their story. We go where it matters.
04
The goal is never dependency. It's for you to leave with clarity, tools, and a narrative that's yours, and the confidence to act on it.
Is this for you
A note
Coaching works best when you're ready to do honest work. If you're looking for someone to tell you what to say no to, I'm probably not the right fit. If you're ready to figure out what your yes is actually costing you, let's talk.

How is boundary coaching different from therapy?
Coaching is forward-focused, action-oriented, and structured around the goals you set. Therapy is clinically-oriented, often focused on processing the past, and provided by licensed mental health professionals. The two can complement each other. Coaching is not a substitute for mental health care.
Do I need to be in crisis to work with you?
No. Most clients aren't in crisis. They're functioning well by every outside measure and privately exhausted by how much they've said yes to. This works best before burnout, not just after it.
How long does a typical engagement last?
Most clients work with me for 3 to 6 months. Some shorter, some longer, depending on the depth of what they're navigating. The goal is to help you think clearly enough to change the pattern, not become dependent on a coach.
Is this only for physicians?
No. Clients come from every high-stakes profession: physicians, attorneys, executives, founders, academics. Anyone whose default answer is yes. If you're specifically a physician, I also have a dedicated physician coaching page.
What credentials do you have?
MD (Doctor of Medicine). ICF-track coach. Faculty at the Harvard Macy Institute. TEDx speaker. Author of the Substack newsletter Permission to Change: Finding Your Ikigai.
Will you tell me what to say no to?
No. I won't hand you a script for declining your boss's request. I'll help you get clear on what you're actually protecting, what the real cost of each yes is, and build the muscle to make that call yourself, consistently.
What does the work actually look like?
We start by mapping where your time and energy actually go, versus where you'd want them to go. Then we use the Fact vs. Story framework to separate the real stakes of saying no from the story you're telling yourself about what will happen if you do.
